My Reflections of 2022

Today, we will perform by following the principles of "Yes, and" philosophy. The trick is simple. Process the information, build on the scene and let the narrative take its course."

During my Shakti-Shalini-Pandies theatre days, the facilitator introduced us to a very interesting improv exercise. The rules were simple. No matter how eccentric the information conveyed by a fellow actor seemed to be, you had to accept and take the play forward.

This may seem simple at the surface but can be super difficult to implement once the spotlight is on. There are times when you are so driven by logic and rationality that there is an urge to oppose the creative input which is offered to you, but then, you have to play the game fair and square or you lose.

When we began with our performance, the initial moments were challenging as we were struggling to synchronise our thought processes. After all, we were from different cultural backgrounds. But gradually, we held on to the thread of faith and allowed the show to unravel. Eventually, I got the opportunity to be a part of one of the most exciting plays which was founded upon an authentic portrayal of powerful emotions and experiences.

If I were to encapsulate the essence of my vibrant 2022 in three words, it will be "EMBRACE AND IMPROVISE."

A year marked by defining professional shifts and profound personal evolution, one of the key takeaways for me was to accept the good, bad and the ugly with open arms. Most of the time, we are so adamant to resist what is not meant to be that we stop the narrative from taking its organic course. While there is a lot of glory in unbridled rebellion, there is greater fulfilment in harmonising with your surroundings and thriving in the chaos. Only when you surrender and broaden your horizon, can you expand your mind, nurture your heart and nourish your soul. What beautiful narratives will you create when you adapt, adjust and glide with the rhythms of life. And when the chips are down, a steaming cup of coffee and a determined spirit can overcome any adversity that might come your way! (Believe me you, I speak from experience.)

This year will always have a special place in my heart as I earned my first diamond ring, built my portfolio and logo and collaborated with some of the brightest minds of the publishing, advertising and marketing industry. And I cannot wait to move to the GOOD PART which is yet to come.
